The Tower of Blue Horses

This painting is one of the most famous works by Franz Marc and has been considered lost since the end of the Second World War. A group of four frontally stacked horses in blue hues with heads turned to the left dominate the image. The rainbow and the crescent moon as well as the crosses on the body of the first horse represent Franz Marc’s intention to depict the unity of cosmos and nature.
